Hawaiian Party Cake Ideas

Hawaiian flowers may be sculpted out of gum paste, sugar, or fondant; orchids and some other flowers are edible, as well.

A Hawaiian-themed party may concentrate on the flora and fauna of those islands, or some of their other stunning natural features, such as volcanoes. Enthusiasts of outdoors activities find a lot to love about Hawaii, so depending on the recipient of this cake, a decorator should consider integrating surf, helicopters, or other outdoor themes. Does this Spark an idea?

Tropical Cake

Use local foods as elements to decorate your Hawaiian cake.

Pineapples, mangoes, sugar cane, coffee, and macadamia nuts are just some of the tropical crops for which Hawaii is famous. Tiki statues, gorgeous flowers, grass skirts, and luaus are some of the most popular elements of Hawaiian-themed parties. If a party has this theme, a cake should reflect that as well. Consider a cake made to look like a cartoon pig roasting on a spit, in honor of a traditional pig-roasting at luaus. A party held for a bartender or someone else with a profession to do with alcohol might call for an elaborate cake made to look like the party recipient's favorite tropical drink. Don't forget the little umbrella!

Volcano Cake

Chocolate lava cakes are frequently seen on restaurant menus, but they are usually individual and look nothing like a volcano. Hawaii is known for its stunning natural features, including volcanoes. With a little trial and error, creating a stunning volcano cake with chocolate lava may suit a party's theme. Sanding sugar, sometimes called decorator's sugar, are coarse crystals of colored sugar used in the decoration of baked goods. Black sanding sugar on a base of dark chocolate frosting can help recreate some of Hawaii's beautiful black-sand beaches. Interested cake decorators should check with hobby or craft stores that sell cake-decorating supplies. Baking supply shops should also have this and other specialty tools on hand.

Activity-Based Cake

Hawaiian tropical fish can be used to illustrate your theme cake.

Snorkeling and small aircraft enthusiasts all find plenty to keep them busy in Hawai'i. If the recipient of the cake just cannot get enough of those beautiful tropical fish, that is an appropriate Hawaiian party cake idea. Uhu, kikapapu, and even majestic sea turtles can grace such a cake and make the recipient's day more special. If the cake recipient is a helicopter or small aircraft enthusiast, finding out that person's favorite aircraft that is found in Hawaii and integrating it into a Hawaiian party cake design may do the trick. This sort of cake may be more difficult, due to the nature of constructing wings, rotors, blades, and other specialized parts. However, if such a cake is planned well in advance, a decorator might be able to find a toy replica of the helicopter or small aircraft to use as a decoration. Care should be taken to ensure that guests eat around it, however.
