Luaus are tropical events.
The luau is a Hawaiian feast with plenty of tropical-style food and beverages, and it is often replicated due to its warm, festive atmosphere. Create a luau-style event by making paper lanterns and using them to decorate the party area. Paper lanterns are traditionally made by the Japanese, a group of people that live extensively in Hawaii. Use colored pencils or paper to create festive additions to the party. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Set paper lanterns in the center of each individual table or in a row down the center of one long table. For quick lanterns, fill a colorful paper bag with sand until it is halfway full, and then set a candle inside.
2. String lanterns on a rope between two trees or from one end of a room to another. Use twist ties to keep the lanterns from sliding into each other. Allow the lanterns to drape on the rope slightly so they can sway in the breeze.
3. Hang individual lanterns from trees or from the ceiling using long string. Cluster the lanterns together in groups of three or more so they do not look isolated. Make several clusters when possible.
4. Make floating paper lanterns by setting them on a Styrofoam base. Use small lanterns, and float them in a large water centerpiece. Alternatively, add them to a pool, fountain or pond.
