Create a cake to remember.
Decorate a little boy's birthday cake based on his interests to get him excited about the end result. For example, if a little boy is interested in Batman, you would not want to decorate his cake with a Spiderman theme. Keep in mind his interests as well as the theme of the party when you decorate. You can use simple, store-bought decorations or make your own if you are creative. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Instructions
1. Find out about the little boy's interests. Decorating a cake to his interests or the theme of the party will ensure that he likes the look of his cake.
2. Bake the cake. Mix the batter and bake according to directions and then allow to cool thoroughly before proceeding.
3. Dirty ice the cake and then frost the cake. Dirty icing is a technique in which you apply a very thin "base" layer of frosting prior to the final frosting layer. This is also sometimes called a crumb coating. Refrigerate the cake for about two hours after dirty icing it and then apply the final layer of frosting. If you need to tint your frosting, do so for both the dirty icing and the final layer.
4. Decorate the cake according to the interests of the little boy for whom you are decorating. You can use premade cake topper decors, create your own decorations or draw on the d cor with frosting from pastry bags and tips.
Use cookies and candies as decorations. For example, chocolate sandwich cookies can be used as wheels to decorate a cake to look like a truck. You can also use rolled fondant and your choice of shaped cookie cutters to make your own decorations.
