Decorate A Paper Lantern With Tissue Paper

Paper lanterns add a wonderful decorative element to the outside of a home, whether for a party, holiday or everyday decoration. If you are making homemade paper lanterns, you can design them as simply or elaborately as possible depending on the event they are being used for. If you do choose to add a decorative flair to your paper lanterns, consider using tissue paper. When your lantern is complete, it will look absolutely beautiful as the candle lights up the paper bag and contrasting tissue paper.

Instructions

Decorate a Paper Lantern With Tissue Paper

1. Choose a theme for your tissue paper, paper lanterns so that you purchase the appropriate colored materials. For instance, if the lanterns are being made for a Christmas party, red and green tissue paper, a stencil of a Christmas tree and white bags would be appropriate. On the other hand, if the bags are for a princess birthday party, white bags with pink and purple tissue paper and a stencil of a crown would be a better choice.

2. Purchase the necessary materials you will need to complete your paper lantern. You will need paper bags, tissue paper, a stencil or stencils, a pencil, scissors, tape, sand and tea lights. Spread your materials out on a table and get ready to start your project.

3. Place your stencil on top of your paper bag. You will want to make sure that you place it on the top two thirds of the bag so it is above the area where the sand will be. This way the candle will fully light up your tissue design. Carefully trace your stencil with a pencil. If you cannot hold the stencil in place, use tape to secure it to the bag before you begin tracing. Remove the stencil and the tape when you have traced it completely.

4. Use your scissors to cut out your stencil drawing. Carefully poke the tip of the scissors into a corner of your drawing. Slowly cut along the line that you traced until the picture is completely cut out. Next, trim your piece of tissue paper so it is slightly larger than your cut-out design. If the tissue paper is a very light color, such as light pink, you may want to fold it so the color is more pronounced.

5. Slide the tissue paper into your paper bag, making sure your entire stencil area is covered. Carefully tape the tissue paper to the inside of the bag until it is completely secure.

6. Fill the paper bag one third of the way with sand and place a tea light securely into the center of the sand pile. Light the tea light to display your tissue paper design.
