Encourage coworkers to participate by including snacks and beverages during the retirement party.
Announcing a retirement from work can be made into a joyous occasion by hosting a small party with fun retirement games. The decision to retire from a company, particularly for people who have worked there a long time, is a significant moment in both the person's life and the history of the company. Retirement games are a jovial way of honoring the retiree for her work as well as a way for the retiree to thank the company for years of employment.
Instructions
1. Ask your boss if you can have a couple hours of one workday devoted to the announcement of your retirement with retirement party games. If she agrees, you can go ahead with planning the announcement and the games.
2. Gather your coworkers and tell them you are retiring and would like to play some games to commemorate the event.
3. Set up a conference room, or other large space, with chairs in a circle and a table for snacks and beverages. Though your coworkers will likely want to spend time playing retirement party games, they may be even more willing to participate if they know there's punch and a slice of cake in it for them.
4. Explain how each game works before you play it, and separate the group into teams if necessary. Some games that would be appropriate are office trivia questions, a "how well do you know the retiree" trivia, a predictions game where people write down how they think the retiree will spend his free time and a words of wisdom question and answer session where coworkers ask the retiree for advice on the job and life in general.
