Get Married In Hawaii For Cheap

Whether you live in the islands or just want to get married there, you can have a wedding in Hawaii on a budget. The natural beauty of Hawaii makes a great venue for large or small weddings. With a little planning, you can have the wedding of your dreams on a realistic budget.

Instructions

1. Set your wedding date for May or June if you're traveling in from the mainland alone or with guests. Airfare to Hawaii is typically cheaper during non-peak travel months. You may also find less expensive rates on hotel rooms. If you have a number of guests coming with you, call the airline and hotel directly to see if you can get group rates.

2. Choose a low-cost setting. Hawaii has many beautiful locations and some of them won't cost you a dime. If privacy isn't a large concern, try a public beach, which is free and you don't need a site permit. Beaches near Waikiki are popular, but if you choose a sunset wedding, be aware that other weddings will more than likely be taking place as well. Diamond Head Overlook Park, Waialae Beach Park and Kapiolani Beach are nearby and less crowded on average.

3. Let the setting provide the backdrop. With all the tropical foliage in Hawaii, you have plenty of places to choose from. Opt for a quiet beach at sunset or a tropical garden, which allows you to spend less but still have a beautiful surrounding. For outdoor weddings on the beach, consider keeping the ceremony short so you won't need to rent chairs as well.

4. Use local flowers and keep it simple. Buy leis from local vendors and position your ceremony near native flowers or other interesting landscapes. The hibiscus, Hawaii's state flower, orchids and the plumeria are colorful choices that are native to the islands.

5. Go local with your food choices as well. Locally grown or produced food is often less expensive because there are no shipping costs involved. Think about fish dishes--ahi, swordfish or snapper, and incorporating some of Hawaii's great fruit like mangoes, pineapple and papaya into the catering or food choices.

6. Hire a local photographer. If you don't use a package that includes a photographer, you might have a friend or family member take pictures for you. You can also try advertising for a photography student from the University of Hawaii or a beginning professional if you don't mind a little risk with your photographs.
