How Early Should You Give Out Birthday Party Invitations

If you're planning a birthday party, you'll want to give invited guests enough time to plan to attend. Sending the invitations in the right time frame will make the guest list complete -- and the party more enjoyable. Does this Spark an idea?

Size

For a small birthday party, sending invitations about three weeks before the celebration is ideal. It is likely the people attending will live in the same city, so three weeks is enough time for the invited guests to make time in their schedules for the event.

Types

If you are having a themed party and guests will have to buy specialty items or costumes for the birthday celebration, it's best to give invitations out about a month before the event. This will give everyone time to search for the perfect mask for a masquerade party or a costume for a themed birthday gathering.

Considerations

If the birthday party will be large, formal or will have a number of guests coming from out of town, consider giving out or mailing invitations six weeks in advance. This will allow guests to make adequate travel arrangements and will give you the necessary time to finalize the party location or menu.
