Give A Birthday Party For A Senior Citizen

A birthday is something you get to celebrate once a year. It is an event many senior citizens look forward to. It is a celebration where the senior citizen gets to spend time with family and friends, in addition to opening presents and eating cake and ice cream. If you are thinking about giving a birthday party for a senior citizen, this article is for you. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Find a location to have the birthday party at. Call to reserve a banquet room at the senior citizen’s favorite restaurant. Host a birthday party for the senior citizen in your home or in a friend’s home. Hold the birthday party at a local park with benches. If the senior citizen is in a convalescent home, hold the party in the main dining room or in the game room.

2. Send out invitations. Invite family and close friends. If the senior citizen is in the convalescent home, consider inviting the other residents. Send out invitations about 2 weeks in advance. Make reminder phone calls a few days before the party. This will help you to get a more accurate head count and know how many to plan on serving food to.

3. Purchase the food. Order a birthday cake or make one yourself. Personalize the cake for the senior citizen. If they like fishing or quilting, add a fishing or quilting theme to the cake. Choose a flavor you know the senior citizen enjoys (i.e. chocolate or vanilla). Find out if there are any food allergies or illnesses that would exclude certain foods and avoid serving those foods at the party. If the party is in a convalescent home, buy enough food so everyone can have some.

4. Decorate the location. Start shopping for birthday party supplies at least a couple of weeks before the party. Look for themed party supplies, including cups, plates, napkins and some decorations. Decorate with balloons, party streamers and even party hats.

5. Give them flowers. Present the birthday boy or girl with flowers. The flowers can be in a bouquet or given as a corsage or boutonniere. You can personalize this gift by finding out what flowers have special meaning to the senior citizen. For example, if they love daisies, give them flowers with a daisy theme.

6. Personalize the party. Create a scrapbook or slideshow with pictures of the senior citizen when they were children. Almost everyone loves to see pictures of people from when they were little and growing up.

7. Play music at the birthday party. Select music from the senior citizen’s era. They may have grown up around a lot of jazz or fifties' music, so play that type of music at the birthday party. This will bring back fond memories of their childhood.
