Book Cheap London Hotels

There are many ways to find deals on London hotels.

Like major cities almost anywhere in the world, London can be very expensive to visit. In fact, Mercer's 2010 Cost of Living survey ranks it in the top 20 most expensive cities in the world. As a result, when you visit London, you should expect to shell out for things like food, attractions and transportation (a ride on a traditional double-decker bus costs upwards of $5), but it's not difficult to find affordable accommodations, sometimes even at more upscale hotels.

Instructions

1. Decide what you want to see. London is a big city; finding lodging close to the landmarks you want to see will make your stay easier and cheaper. Many quality hotels in London are within walking distance of popular tourist attractions.

2. Choose an area in the city. If you're flying to London, you will most likely fly into Heathrow Airport. There are many hotels in close proximity of the airport, but traveling around the city will be easier if you move away from this area in your search. When you have decided what you want to see, choose an area of London closest to the most attractions, such as near Piccadilly or Hyde Park.

3. Log on to hotelsdirect.co.uk. Many other travel sites will offer flight and hotel packages, but if you book separately you can find better deals. Hotels Direct, for example, offers up to 75 percent off listed room rates.

4. Select "London" from the city options listed on the first page. Enter your arrival and departure dates, as well as the number of guests and rooms you require. Click "Search" to be taken to results for hotels in London listed by price and star rating.

5. Narrow your search. On the right side of the screen you will see a menu to narrow your results. The second section of this menu is for location. Select the area of the city where you want to stay from this menu. The page will automatically reload with more exact results.

6. Select a hotel. You will be taken to a page for that hotel with more information as well as room rates and availability. When you find one you like, click "Book this hotel."

7. Book your hotel. On the booking page, review the number of nights and price, then fill out the contact and payment details. When you are ready, click "Proceed." Review your information and payment information following all other directions on the screen to complete your booking.
