Homemade Games for Kid's Parties
There's no need to spend a lot of money on store-bought party games. These homemade games require few supplies and are sure to keep kids entertained. Many of these work well even at parties with children of different ages. Add in some homemade treats for the prizes and you have the recipe for party success. Does this Spark an idea?
Balloon Pick Up
Blow up several small balloons. Kids take turns picking up and holding as many balloons as they can before time is up (each turn is one to two minutes). Encourage children to get creative by holding balloons in their teeth, under their arms, etc. The person who can pick up and hold the most balloons wins. This game tends to get the giggles going.
Scavenger Hunt
Gather items you have on hand and hide them wherever guests are allowed to go (living room, backyard, etc). Divide the children into two or more teams. Make a list of hidden objects and give a copy to each team. The team that gathers the most items before time is up is the winner. Get creative with items on the list and don't forget to include things that may already be in your yard, such as a dried leaf.
Music Walk
All you need for this game is plain or colored paper. Print or draw a large number "1" on the first paper, "2" on the second, and so forth until you have the same number of papers as children playing. Do the same thing with small, numbered pieces of paper which you'll fold and put in a bowl. Place papers on the ground in a circle and have each child stand on a piece of paper. Children walk in a circle, stepping from paper to paper, while music plays. Stop the music and draw a number from the bowl. The child on that number is out. Remove the paper from the circle, start the music and continue until one child is left.
Floating Feather
All kids play this game at the same time. Give each child a feather, which they must keep in the air just by blowing on it (no hands). The person who keeps their feather in the air the longest is the winner.
Cat Tails
Cut scrap fabric into strips 1 yard long, one for each child. Each child tucks one end into the waistline of their pants, allowing the rest to hang out the back like a cat's tail. The tail should be long enough to still touch the ground while the child is running. Have children then spread out to start the game. They try to step on each other's tails, causing the tail to come off. The last one with their tail is the winner.
