Ink cartridges contain the ink ribbon used in typewriters.
Smith Corona is a company that manufactures typewriters primarily. Pressing letters and numbers on a typewriter raises the letter plate into an ink ribbon, which transfers that letter or number onto paper. The ink ribbon is stored in an ink cassette or cartridge and must be replaced once the ribbon has been completely used. When the entire ink ribbon has been used, ink will not transfer to paper while typing.
Instructions
1. Power on the Smith Corona typewriter. Lift the top cover of the typewriter to expose the ribbon cassette or ribbon cartridge.
2. Press the "Space" bar to move the printer carrier towards the center. Continue until it is centered.
