Decorate An Under The Sea Room For Kids

Add stuffed toys that look like sea animals to complement the room's decor.

Transform your child's traditional bedroom d cor with an under-the-sea theme. Popular with kids of all ages, an ocean theme is relatively easy to create. Set the stage by changing the floors, walls and windows to ocean hues, and complement them with under-the-sea accessories. Younger children may prefer cartoonish, whimsical versions of sea creatures, while older children may want more realistic depictions of ocean life. Let your child help you decide which decorations and accessories to use for a look that will be enjoyed for years to come. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Paint the walls a light blue or turquoise color to give the room an underwater feel.

2. Set a textured green rug on the floor to simulate seaweed. If you have wood floors, stain them a light brown color to represent sand.

3. Hang short white valances to suggest foamy waves or green curtains that reach to the floor to suggest tall stalks of seaweed.

4. Purchase an ocean-themed bed covering in colors that coordinate with the wall and curtains. Alternatively, purchase a solid green or blue bed covering that can be re-used when your child grows older and wants a different theme.

5. Replace existing lamps, light plate covers and drawer pulls with ocean-themed ones.

6. Stain a wooden toy box dark brown. Embellish it with yellow or gold hinges and a handle to look like a treasure chest.

7. Create a wall mural depicting sea animals using paint, stencils or self-adhesive appliqu s.

8. Hang stuffed sea animals from the ceiling or display them in a toy net hung in one corner of the room.

9. Display shells on top of a dresser, shelf or desk.
