Make A Spongebob Centerpiece Out Of Sponge

Transform a plain yellow sponge into SpongeBob SquarePants.

SpongeBob, the beloved sponge who enjoys many undersea adventures, is a common birthday party theme for children of all ages. When decorating for a SpongeBob-themed party, get creative with a SpongeBob table centerpiece you can make yourself by using an actual sponge. Making your own SpongeBob is so fun and simple, you may want to buy extra sponges and let the guests make one to take home as a party favor. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Cut two large white ovals for SpongeBob's eyes out of felt. Cut two smaller blue circles out of felt for the pupils. Use the hot-glue gun to glue the eyes to the sponge.

2. Create eyelashes for SpongeBob that look like dashes. Use the black felt and cut three lashes for each eye. Glue them directly above the eyes.

3. Make SpongeBob's smiling mouth out of red felt, and add two white teeth using the white felt and hot-glue gun.

4. Dress SpongeBob in brown pants by cutting a rectangle out of brown felt that is the exact size of the lower half of the sponge. Glue it on. Finish SpongeBob's clothing by creating a strip of white felt for a shirt and adding a small red tie using the felt scraps.

5. Insert yellow pipe cleaners into the two long sides of the sponge to create arms. Add pipe cleaners to the bottom of the sponge to make SpongeBob's legs. Use hot glue to secure the pipe cleaners in the sponge.

6. Fill the bottom of a small aquarium tank or bowl with sand or pebbles and some cute aquarium decorations such as coral and a treasure chest. Set the SpongeBob you created inside the tank.

7. Tie several helium balloons around the tank to complete the SpongeBob centerpiece.
