Change A Pool Light

Change a Pool Light

Swimming pools are assets to any home. The only downside to having a pool is that they may have a maintenance issue that requires time and money to fix. One of these problems include a burnt out bulb on a submerged light fixture. Pool light fixtures are air tight and will require the pool to be partially drained in order to fix it. Don't waste money by hiring a costly handyman or pool repair professional to change your pool light when you can easily handle the task yourself. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Drain the swimming pool until the light fixture is exposed. Make sure to follow appropriate housing authority or city codes when draining the pool. These rules are set in place to protect you, your neighbors and the environment.

2. Unscrew the face plate with the appropriate tools and remove it. Some pool lights will have a plastic face plate that is the screw itself. It will need to be turned counter-clockwise in order to be removed.

3. Pop off the light's glass cover if it hasn't come off with the face plate. Place it in a safe location.

4. Replace the light bulb with a replacement bulb of the same wattage, or with a bulb that is exclusively rated for the light fixture.

5. Replace the glass cover and screw the face plate back into place the exact same way it came off. To make sure that light cover is air tight, observe the light fixture closely while you are refilling the pool with water.
