Make A Birthday Flyer For Free

Announce a birthday event with a flyer.

Invite people to a surprise birthday party, let your office mates know a co-worker is turning 40 or just wish someone a happy special day with a flyer. Flyers are single-page handouts which may showcase a few lines of text or a page filled with graphics and information. You can make your own birthday themed flyers on your computer for free, taking advantage of programs that may already be installed or by using free trial downloads.

Instructions

Using Paint

1. Open Paint, click the "Image" menu and select "Attributes." Set the dimensions as 8.5 x 11 inches and click the "OK" button.

2. Click the "Text" tool, which looks like an "A" and click at the top of the flyer. Type the flyer headline, such as "Please join me for Ed’s 65th birthday party, Star Wars Theme!"

3. Add another block of text with details such as a description of the birthday party, what to bring and where and find the party such as an address, phone number or other contact information.

4. Click the "Airbrush" tool, which looks like a spray can and select the small whirl head below it. Choose a paint color from the "Color Picker" and click around the white space of the flyer, creating confetti. Change paint colors and click more, adding a rainbow effect.

5. Pull down the "File" menu, click "Save As," name the file and give it a location to save to on your computer.

Microsoft Publisher

6. Open Publisher or download a free trial. Click the "Publications for Print" option and double-click "Flyers." Scroll through the options and double-click one, which opens in the Publisher workspace.

7. Click your cursor into the flyer headline text box, which becomes highlighted. Type your flyer headline directly on top of the words such as "Birthday Party This Saturday" or "You’re Invited to a Surprise Party!"

8. Click into another placeholder text box on the flyer and add more of your own information about the party or event. Highlight the words and use the text toolbar at the top of the page to change the font, size and color.

9. Right-click the placeholder graphic on the flyer and select "Change Picture." Choose "Clip Art." Type "birthday," "cake," "balloons" or even "gravestone" into the "Search for" box and click "Go." Scroll through the results and double-click an option for it to appear in place on the flyer.

10. Pull down the "File" menu, click "Save As" and name the file. Select a place to save it to on your computer and click "Save."

Using Word

11. Open Word or download a free trial. Click the "File" menu and select "New." When the "New Document" pane opens on the right side of the screen, type "flier" or "flyer" into the "Search online for" box and click "Go." You can type "birthday flier" but you may get fewer results.

12. Scroll through the resulting templates, click a link to view the template in a preview window and click "Download" to open the template in Word.

13. Highlight the template flier’s text, then type directly over the top of it with your own, such as "Over the Hill Party This Saturday" or "Birthday Party Catering and Entertainment Available."

14. Click once on a graphic on the flyer to highlight it, then press the "Delete" key to remove it from the flyer. Pull down the "Insert" menu, click "Picture," click "Clip Art," type a word or phrase into the "Search for" box, click "Go" and double-click an image. It appears on the flyer-drag it into place with your cursor.

15. Click the "File" menu and select "Save As." Name the flyer, select a destination for it on your computer and click "Save."
