Decorate your wedding with shells and sand.
A pig roast diverges from traditional seated or buffet dining offered at some weddings, and can be a tasty and affordable way to feed a large number of wedding guests. Decorating for a pig roast wedding doesn't have to be a challenge. Choose a theme that marries with the casualness of a barbecue, like a country wedding or luau wedding. Take inspiration from a country setting, including weathered wood, wildflowers and glass jars, or a Hawaiian setting, incorporating tropical flowers and fruits, bright colors and shells into your decor.
Instructions
Country Wedding
1. Use the natural setting of your outdoor space to help decorate, choosing soft colors for your wedding. Hold your wedding when wildflowers are in bloom and carry a wildflower bouquet. Rather than decorate with elaborate floral arrangements, plant additional shrubs and annual flowers in the landscape.
2. Rent a tent and gazebo for roofed outdoor spaces. Exchange vows in the gazebo, then move to the tented space for the reception. Drape streamers in your wedding colors from the center of the tent to the edges. Hang a round, white paper lantern from the middle tip of the inside of the tent.
3. Cover rectangular tables with checked or solid color tablecloths, or offer seating on natural or painted wood picnic tables. Small wildflower bouquets in glass vases, empty bottles or mason jars, and tea light candles can be used as centerpieces.
4. Set up a wood dance floor in the tent and hire a country, bluegrass or rock band to play at the reception. Imitate a barn setting by stacking bales of hay around the music and dancing area. Arrange wildflower bouquets in tin buckets atop the hay bales.
5. Serve the pig straight from the pit. Set up a buffet table nearby for side dishes and the cake. Decorate the buffet table with vintage, wildflower-filled ceramic pitchers in a variety of colors.
6. Paint a weathered wood sign with the first names of the bride and groom. Hang the sign above the wedding party table.
Luau Wedding
7. Choose bright, tropical colors to decorate with. Consider grass or lime green, lemon, fuchsia, neon orange and teal.
8. Cover round tables that seat eight to ten guests with an assortment of brightly colored tablecloths. Attach decorative grass table skirting to the tablecloths. Push large safety pins through the base of fabric tropical flowers, then use the flowers around the perimeter of the table to hold the skirting in place.
9. Add potted orchids bunched in groups of three, or woven grass baskets filled with tropical flowers, like birds of paradise or anthurium, as centerpieces on guest tables. Continue the floral theme on the head table and buffet tables, but add coconuts, shells and carved tiki statues, as well.
10. Light the walkway to the wedding and the reception with tiki torches. Add more torches throughout the outdoor areas at the reception, such as around the roast pit and seating areas.
11. Decorate lavishly with tropical flowers. Give leis to guests to wear and loose flowers for them to tuck behind their ears or in buttonholes. Place large, potted greenery in the corners of the room. Smaller potted tropical plants can line the front of the stage or DJ area. Drape orchids over any undecorated surface.
