Hawaii's culture today is a blend of traditional Hawaiian culture with such cultures as Asian, Portuguese and American. Making a Hawaiian-style float is a great addition to a Hawaiian-themed get together, or for when you just want a tropical taste of the Islands of Paradise. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Instructions
1. Obtain fruits associated with Hawaii, such as guava, banana, pineapple, oranges, papaya, limes and passion fruit, or obtain the juices of these fruits. Also, get coconut milk and several kinds of soda you think go well with your Hawaiian fruit and ice cream combination.
2. Pick several of the Hawaiian-style fruits to make combinations; peel, de-seed and chop. Add the fruit to a blender and puree the ingredients. Taste the puree with a spoonful of ice cream, and decide whether or not it needs another ingredient, or more of an ingredient you already added. Keep a record on a piece of paper, what ingredients you used and how much. When you find a combination, or several combinations you like, write them down on a separate piece of paper.
3. Soften vanilla ice cream by leaving it on the counter until it is easy to scoop. Do not let it melt. Place the ice cream into a large mixing bowl, and gradually blend in the fruit puree with a spatula until you achieve a marbled effect, or a fully-blended, tropical-flavored ice cream. Place the ice cream in the freezer until it firms up again.
4. In a small glass, pour a small amount of soda. Taste this soda along with some of the ice cream blend. If that combination is not to your liking, try another soda, or combinations of them, by measuring out amounts together until you find an ice cream and soda combination you enjoy. If you find a combination of sodas works best, write down the ratio of sodas.
5. Scoop the Hawaiian fruit-flavored ice cream into a tall glass until it reaches one-third the way up. Pour the soda over the ice cream until the glass is full. Add a bendy straw and enjoy.
