Build a Ring Toss Game
A ring toss game involves a series of vertical pegs. The object is to toss a ring so that it lands on one of the pegs. The game might have a set number of pegs, such as four or eight, that are all secured onto one platform. Another way to make a ring toss game is to make individual, free-standing pegs. This allows you to add more pegs to the game and position them freely.
Instructions
1. Cut the piece of 2 by 4 into a 4-inch square, using a chop saw. The length of 2 by 4 you buy will be determined by how many pegs you intend to make for your game.
2. Drill a hole in the center of the 4-inch square, large enough for one end of the peg to fit into.
3. Sand the exterior of the 4-inch square piece of wood to remove any rough edges. Sand the ends of the dowel to round the edges.
4. Paint the exterior of the wood square with gloss enamel and allow it to dry. If necessary, give it a second coat of paint.
5. Coat the dowel with clear varnish, and allow it to dry.
6. Apply glue to the inside of the drilled hole. Insert one end of the dowel into the hole, and push in until it's flush on one side and sticks out the other side. Allow the glue to dry.
7. Repeat Steps 1 through 6 to make additional free-standing pegs.
8. Thread the bead onto the cord. The hole in the bead should be just large enough for the cord to slip through and be snug.
9. Glue one end of the cord to the other end of the cord. Slip the bead over the glue area to hide the junction. Apply more glue and allow it to dry.
10. Repeat Steps 7 and 8 for each additional ring you make.
