Make A Tablecloth For My Reception

Make a tablecloth for your own reception.

Tablecloths and the d cor within the hall are an essential part of a wedding reception. You might think it would be easier to buy a tablecloth than to make one yourself, but it can be fun to create your very own tablecloth. Making a tablecloth can seem like a daunting and time-consuming task, but it can be the ultimate do-it-yourself project.

Instructions

1. Measure the tabletop that will be used for your wedding reception. You can choose from a variety of shapes, from round to rectangle. Use your measuring tape to find the length and the width of the table. Record the measurements. Determine the amount of fabric you want to drop along the sides of the table. Add a minimum of 8 inches of fabric for the sides.

2. Visit your local fabric shop. Choose the fabric for your tablecloth based on the colors and style of your wedding. Cotton or cotton-polyester blends work perfectly for tablecloths.

3. Wash and iron the fabric when you get home. If you are using a color other than white, washing will ensure that it doesn't bleed. Iron the fabric so there are no wrinkles. When you are ironing the fabric, make sure you iron it wrong side up.

4. Fold the edges under 1/2-inch, using the iron. Iron the edges twice to ensure the fold remains. You will use the fold to create you hem. Continue by placing pins on the hem to secure it.

5. Stitch the hem of the tablecloth with a sewing machine. A sewing machine will allow you to make a straight stitch across the hem. If you don't have a sewing machine, you can stitch the hem yourself with a needle and thread. Iron the tablecloth again so it is perfect for your wedding reception.
