Hawaiian Flower Centerpiece Ideas

Make a lei part of your Hawaiian-themed wedding centerpieces.

Make a Hawaiian-themed wedding complete with tropical centerpieces that evoke the lush, verdant plant life of the Hawaiian islands. Pair flowers with light, glass and even sand and seashells to bring the beauty of the beach into your wedding. Whether you're holding your wedding in Hawaii or Wisconsin, you can create a Hawaiian look and feel with the right food (luau), music and flowers, including some centerpiece ideas.

Let Loose With Lava

Lava plants from Hawaii make interesting and unique centerpieces for wedding receptions. They are particularly appropriate for cocktail-style receptions with smaller tables. Guzmania huron, samba, or vriesea carly bromeliad lava plants feature several tropical leaves and tight, upward-shooting brightly colored blooms. They can be arranged so that they appear to be coming out of a piece of lava, or you can place them in containers and cover the containers with moss to create mini-tropical volcanoes on your tables. These centerpieces make good gifts that can be given to a lucky guest at each table.

Lay a Lei

Create centerpieces that your guests can wear home. Lay a lei at the center of every table and construct a simple candle centerpiece inside of it. Choose a glass vase that's square or oval and place votive candles inside. Sprinkle a few seashells and loose orchids around the candle inside of the lei. Choose from a variety of leis to find one that matches your style and wedding theme. Select a traditional orchid or dendrobium lei or outfit each table with a less common maile or ti leaf lei.

Simple Seaweed

A distinctive centerpiece that brings the ocean into your wedding reception is a simple seaweed and candle combination. Set a white pillar candle in a clear glass hurricane vase. Wrap thin strands of green sea grass around the vase so that it resembles a lush bird's nest of sorts. Place orchids or ti leafs in the sea grass to add color and a tropical garden touch to the centerpieces.

Bird of Paradise

Nothing says Hawaii quite like a centerpiece featuring bird of paradise flowers. These beautiful orange, purple and yellow blooms look like tropical birds popping out of a lush jungle. Create a simple ring of flowers alternating among birds of paradise, orchids and yellow daises around a vase made of bamboo sticks. Have pillar candles rise out from the tops of the bamboo vases for an elegant, tropical look.
