Waikiki Beach in Honolulu boasts an array of hotels and resorts.
While there is no Hawaiian city known as Halekulani, the historic Halekulani Hotel is found on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu on the island of Oahu. The historic hotel, built in the early 1900s, is conveniently located near many of the state capital's popular attractions. Travelers visiting the Waikiki Beach area will find not just the Halekulani, but a variety of neighboring hotels and resorts as well.
Halekulani Hotel
The Halekulani's story begins just after the turn of the 20th century with the construction of a small hotel called Hau Tree on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu. It was expanded in 1917 and renamed Halekulani, or "House Befitting Heaven." The complex features five buildings that range in height from two to 17 stories surrounded by open courtyards and lush gardens. The hotel boasts three restaurants, three cocktail lounges, pool, spa, fitness room, business center, and a hospitality suite. For shoppers, six luxury boutiques feature fine porcelain and silver, including Japanese Imari antiques, as well as custom-designed gold jewelry and designer handbags and watches. Nearby, guests will discover Hawaii's Royal Palace, a short walk from the State Capitol in downtown Honolulu, as well as the Waikiki Aquarium. Visitors can also sign up for tours to see humpback whales, which arrive just in time for the Christmas season.
Kahala Hotel and Resort
The Kahala boasts 800 feet of ivory sand on which guests can relax, along with 306 guestrooms and opulent suites appointed with light tropical colors and island touches in the Kahala Chic style. Guests can take advantage of 10 private spa treatment suites, each with a personal relaxation area, changing area, and private shower and bath. The Kahala also offers plenty of dining. It features five on-site restaurants, include Hoku's (an award-winning restaurant known for contemporary island cuisine), the Plumeria Beach House and Tokyo-Tokyo, which features authentic Japanese cuisine, including sushi, in an elegant tea house setting. There are myriad activities for guests to indulge in, such as the Dolphin Encounter, the kids Keiki Club, surfing, scuba and cycling, and plenty of on-site designer shopping, including the hotel's own Kahala Boutique.
Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa
Opened in 1951, the Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa is found on Waikiki's widest stretch of beach. It boasts 22 oceanfront acres to create a true resort experience for its guests. The accommodation features five distinctive towers throughout the property that offer both traditional guestrooms and suites. Pools are a big deal at Hawaiian Village; it has six of them, such as the Paradise Pool, which features slides, waterfalls, spas and panoramic views. It is a virtual aquatic playground comprised of a two-tiered, freshwater pool bordered by lava rock formations, streams and bridges and tropical landscaping. The pool features four slides, three waterfalls and two heated spas. Hungry guests will find plenty of dining options at the 20 on-site restaurants and lounges. The hotel also offers an eclectic array of activities that include a luau, beachfront fireworks show, wildlife and culture demonstrations, and a Polynesian revue.
Moana Surfrider
A 45-minute drive from the Honolulu airport, the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, features a renovated lobby with hardwood floors and adjacent courtyard with outdoor tables and chairs where guests can relax under the shade of the hotel's historic Banyan tree. Waikiki's first and only beachfront spa opened in the Moana in October 2008 and boasts 14 state-of-the-art treatment rooms, including two couple's massage rooms. In the evening, guests can unwind during the hotel's slant on happy hour: "Unwind: A Westin Evening Ritual." The hotel has traditional guestrooms as well as suites, which offer both city and ocean views. For on-site dining, visit the Banyan Veranda restaurant, the Beachhouse and the Beach Bar.
