Decorate Hawaiian Cakes

If you have a Hawaiian-themed party to attend, decorate a Hawaiian-themed cake to bring as a gift. These cakes work well for themed birthday parties, summer parties or pig roasts. Decorations on Hawaiian-themed cakes often include a luau girl or a scene of the state's breathtaking ocean views. Decorating a Hawaiian cake does not require any more skill than decorating a typical birthday cake. Bake your Hawaiian cake in a standard cake pan, as this works well when creating a beach scene. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Frost the entire cake with blue frosting, to make an ocean background. Allow the frosting to cover the top and sides of the cake. Use your frosting spatula to create waves by gently whisking the frosting upward. Create waves on ¼ of the cake. This allows for other Hawaiian decorations.

2. Apply thin lines of white frosting in the blue frosting with your toothpick. The white creates a realistic appearance to the "ocean" of the Hawaiian cake. Repeat the white lines until satisfied.

3. Cover half the cake with graham cracker crumbs. Sprinkle the graham cracker crumbs on the cake with your hands. This creates a sandy beach appearance.

4. Place plastic fish on the blue and white frosting.

5. Arrange plastic people and palm trees on the graham cracker crumb part of the cake. Create a beach scene with the plastic people and palm trees.

6. Arrange a variety of candy flowers along the sides of the cake. Floral leis often adorn the necks of people in Hawaii. This adds to the Hawaiian appearance of the cake.
