Finance A Wedding With Bad Credit

You can be creative in finding ways to help finance your wedding.

The cost of having a wedding is continually on the rise, and with the poor economy following the recession that began in 2008, many people are in the position of not having good credit. Even with a poor credit history, there are still ways you can get the money you need to finance the wedding of your dreams. You just have to plan smarter, work harder and be creative when planning your wedding. Though wedding loans are available even for those with poor credit, the last thing you want to do is start your new life together with a large debt hanging over you.

Instructions

1. Plan early--the earlier you start planning your wedding, the more time you will have to pay for it. When you get engaged, set the wedding date for at least one year away, possibly two. This will give you plenty of time to make regular payments to your vendors and buy the things needed to make the wedding special. Do not wait; when you have a few extra dollars, start making payments to the wedding venues, florists, photographers and DJs. By paying a little here and a little there over the period of the engagement, you will not feel the impact of the overall cost of the wedding at one time. Start looking around for wedding favors, gifts and d cor early, so that you can use the time leading up to the big day to put all of these little things together.

2. Have a yard sale. At the wedding, you will receive gifts from your registry that will help furnish and fill your home. As a couple, go through your individual belongings and get rid of everything you do not need. For instance, if you are not living together prior to getting married, remember that you will not need two coffeemakers after, so if you can get by without it until then, get rid of one now. Sell as much as you can at a yard sale and continue having a yard sale every few months or until everything you can possibly sell has been sold. You can also sell larger items such as furniture through ads in the newspaper or in consignment shops. Consider trying to sell items of value on an online auction site prior to putting them in your yard sales.

3. Turn in old jewelry. An age-old way of finding money is turning in old and broken jewelry. The two of you will have a long life ahead to get new jewelry that will mark special occasions. Go through all of your jewelry, and unless it has extreme sentimental value, consider turning it in for cash. Also, if you have broken jewelry or single earrings missing a pair, turn those in for cash. You might be amazed as to how much money is hiding in your jewelry box.

4. Ask relatives and friends for help. It can never hurt to ask someone in the family to help out with a part of the wedding. Maybe a close cousin can host the rehearsal dinner or an aunt might be willing to pay for the flowers as part of your wedding gift. If you find yourself financing your entire wedding yourself, ask others for help by coming up with something small that they might be willing to help with. If you get help from a few different people, you could end up having a large chunk of your wedding paid for by your family and even friends.

5. Get a second job. If all else fails, getting a second job that will only be temporary, and knowing that it is, might make the extra work easier to handle. Use the second job to pay only for wedding-related items and pay for something every time you get paid from that second job. This way you will not be tempted to spend the money on other things.
