Make A Hula Skirt With Bags

Make a hula skirt for a child from a handful of paper bags.

Make a hula skirt for a little girl or boy for a Hawaiian-themed afternoon of pretend play. You can make the bag from strips of brown paper bags or add a little bit of color to the costume and color the strips with markers or crayons. For a Hawaiian or luau-themed birthday party, cut the strips ahead of time and use the hula skirt-making project as an activity for the party guests and have the boys and girls decorate the skirts with crayons, stickers and glitter for a custom party favor.

Instructions

1. Cut open the sides of paper bags and flatten them out on your work surface.

2. Cut the paper bags into long, 1-inch-wide strips. You will need one strip for every 1 inch of waist circumference, plus one extra strip.

3. Line up the strips side by side and make sure the ends are even.

4. Cut a long piece of 2-inch-wide clear tape. Make the tape long enough to span over top of all of the strips' ends.

5. Smooth 1 inch of the tape's width along the length of the strips. Fold the remaining inch over the back of the strips.

6. Wrap the skirt around your waist and tape the ends closed.
