Nancy Drew 19: The Haunting of Castle Malloy" was released in October 2008 and gives the famous detective the task of investigating the disappearance of a groom and the recent madness of the bride. Several puzzles must be solved to crack the case, and the otter puzzle is one of the easier ones. Otters of four different colors must be turned, swapped and lined up with the other half of their bodies of the same color. Different solutions are required based on the game difficulty level.
Instructions
Completing the Otter Puzzle in Junior Mode
1. Click on the small pile of books on the bookcase to start the otter puzzle. This will bring up a grid with nine squares featuring blue, green, brown and purple otters. The center square cannot be moved and the other squares must be shifted until the proper otter colors are matching up with each other.
2. Turn the left piece of the grid to complete the blue otter in the center. Click and drag the top right piece and swap it with the top center piece. Turn the new center piece until the central purple otter is complete.
3. Turn the center right tile piece until the central green otter is complete. Click and drag the lower right piece and swap it with the bottom center tile. Turn the bottom center tile until the central brown otter is complete.
4. Click and drag the lower right tile and swap it with the upper left tile. Turn the upper left tile to complete the otters on either side of it. Turn the lower right tile to complete the otters on either side of it.
5. Turn the lower left tile to complete the otter on either side of it. Turn the upper right tile to complete the otters on either side of it. You will hear a clicking noise and a large gear will pop out of a drawer.
Completing the Otter Puzzle in Senior Mode
6. Click on the same pile of books to start the puzzle. Click and drag the upper right tile and swap it with the center left tile. Turn the center left tile until the central blue otter is complete.
7. Click and drag the upper left tile and swap it with the center right tile. Turn the center right tile until the central green otter is complete. Click and drag the lower left tile and swap it with the bottom center tile. Turn the bottom center tile until the central brown otter is complete.
8. Click and drag the upper left tile and swap it with the upper center tile. Turn the upper center tile until the central purple otter is complete. Click and drag the upper left tile and swap it with the lower left tile.
9. Turn the upper left tile until the side otters are complete. Turn the lower left tile until the side otters are complete. Turn the upper right tile until the side otters are complete. You will hear a sound and the drawer will open to reveal a large gear.
