The success of any children's party is in keeping kids entertained. When throwing a construction theme birthday party for your child all you need is some advanced planning and a few inexpensive props to keep the party moving. Follow these steps to start planning. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Line up several toy dump trucks and have the guests take turns tossing bean bags into the back of the dump trucks. Have small, inexpensive prizes in a tool box for the kids to choose from, depending on how many bean bags they got in a truck.
2. Buy some toy tools and canvas tool aprons. Take pictures of each of the different types of tools. Make enough copies for each guest to have a full set of pictures. Hide the tools around the house or yard and have the guests try to find a tool to match each of their pictures. As they find them, they place them in their tool aprons. If they run across one they already have, they leave it where it is and go search for another one. For older children, give them the option of leaving the tool where it is or hiding it in a new location. Let the kids keep the tools and aprons as party favors.
3. Divide the party guests into two teams and line each team up with a pile of bricks made from large blocks or covered shoe boxes. Then have them pass the blocks down the line until they're all at the other end. The first team to have all of their bricks at the other end gets a prize. When the relay is over let the kids just build with the blocks until you're ready for the next activity.
4. Precut and drill birdhouses and instruct the guests to come to the party with hammers and screwdrivers. Then, along with their parents, have the kids construct their birdhouses. Let younger children paint pre-made birdhouses. While the houses are drying you can engage kids in other activities. When it's time to go, send them home with a bag of birdseed for their feathered friends.
5. Divide party guests into teams and form lines. The first in line puts on a construction outfit (hard hat, tool belt and vest) and races around a cone or barrel and back to the line. Then they take off the outfit and the next person puts it on and repeats the run. The first team to complete the relay is the winner.
6. Bake sugar cookies in the shape of tools like hammers and screw drivers and put them out on a table with icing and colored sprinkles. Have the kids decorate their own cookie for a special treat.
