Decorate A Backyard For A Wedding Reception

Many couples are opting to hold receptions in well-decorated backyards.

A large, well-manicured backyard is a perfect setting for a wedding reception if the weather is nice. In fact, many brides and grooms are opting to hold an informal, less expensive reception in a relative's backyard. With just a little creative decorating, you can turn the backyard into a beautiful space to host the happy event. Take into account just how formal the wedding will be and decorate accordingly.

Instructions

1. Light up any trees or bushes by using your white miniature Christmas lights. String these all over the trees and bushes near the reception area. Net lights work well to drape over bushes and shrubbery, too.

2. Borrow long tables and chairs from a local social club, such as the VFW. Arrange these with the bride and groom's table facing the others. Cover the tables with white plastic that you can buy in a large roll at party supply houses.

3. Decorate the tables using long strips of streamers. Choose colors that coordinate with the wedding colors. Tape the streamers down at one end of the table and roll down to the other end. Twist the streamer to give it a festive look then tape it down to the other end.

4. Use large potted ferns to set in front of the bride and groom's table, or the cake table. They will add an elegant look and they can be used as garden or patio decorations later. Bring other houseplants outside if you have them, or ask friends and family to bring theirs.

5. Shelter the cake under a portable tent pavilion to ward off the sun. Continue your light theme by hanging white icicle lights all around the top edges of the tent so that they drape down. Add bouquets of silk flowers that match the wedding colors to the cake table.

6. Get someone to bring a camping trailer that has an awning. Set your buffet serving tables up under the RV awning. Cover the tables with the white plastic and hang the matching streamers from the front of the serving tables. Hang large wedding bells from the camper's awning. Use the camper to keep the food and serving utensils in until they are needed.

7. Roll the white plastic out on the ground behind the bride and groom's table. She will appreciate being able to sit down without worrying about her wedding dress dragging the ground. Don't over decorate; instead keep it simple and casual.
