Hawaiian Themes For A Sweet 16 Party

Celebrate your daughter's sweet 16 with a Hawaiian-themed party.

A sweet 16 is an ideal reason to have a big birthday party. This year you can give your sweet 16 girl a Hawaiian theme for her birthday. You can throw a Hawaiian-themed party any time of year. You can make your daughter's sweet 16 a special event by incorporating Hawaiia into the party with the food, costumes and games. Does this Spark an idea?

Costume Party

Have all the guests come to your sweet 16 dressed up in costumes. The catch is that all the guests have to dress up in a Hawaiian theme, such as grass skirts and coconut bras and surfers with boards. Give door prizes for the best costumes. This is a good party to have inside during the winter months if your guests want to pretend it is summer. Decorate with beach towels, or have beach towels to give away as thank you gifts as the guests leave. One game could be a jar stuffed with leis. The guests all guess at how many leis are in the jar, and the one who guesses the closest wins a prize.

Hawaiian-Themed Food

Prepare a lot of different foods that are traditionally Hawaiian. There is the typical fruit, such as pineapple, mangoes, bananas and papayas. Roast pig is a traditional food served at big gatherings and feasts in Hawaii. Of course, you probably cannot roast it in the ground as the Hawaiian natives do, but you can order or make barbecue pork. Plan to watch a movie, especially movies based in Hawaii, such as "Blue Hawaii" with Elvis Presley or "Pearl Harbor." Set up your table as a buffet so that guests can get as much food as they want whenever they want.

Luau

Celebrate everything, all the food and the costumes, by having a big luau. This is a good idea for a large party that you can have outdoors, and this is a good party to have if you can do the traditional pig roast. Grill meat on skewers marinated in a jerk sauce for finger foods to eat while guests talk. Make sure to have leis with which the birthday girl can greet each one of the guests. Hire some Hawaiian dancers so you have live entertainment. Decorate with Hawaiian flowers, such as hibiscus at each table. Play limbo with some Hawaiian music playing in the background, either from CDs or from the band that came with the Hawaiian dancers. If the party goes into the night, set up tiki torches around the party perimeter to keep bugs away and provide light.
