Decorate an Office for a 40th Birthday
Turning 40 is a milestone in most people's lives. Traditionally thought of as the "over-the-hill" birthday, it can be a time of reflection, sadness or good-natured humor. Office parties tend to lean towards the latter. Help your co-worker get "over-the-hill" gracefully with a touch of humor by decorating his office for a 40th birthday party. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Decorate with the color black, which signifies the passing of youth. Hang black streamers from the ceiling and tie bouquets of black balloons to office chairs.
2. Create a "remember when" board. Get pictures of the person when they were a child and hang them on a bulletin board. Surround the pictures with headlines and facts from the year the person was born, such as big events and the price of gas.
3. Hang a banner made of newsprint or butcher paper. Write "So sorry you're FORTY!" or "With sympathy to the 40-year-old" in markers or paint.
4. Decorate a gift or cake table with "old person" items, such as dentures, glasses and a cane. Print out quotes about turning 40 to display on the walls.
5. Decorate the office in the style from when the birthday girl was born. For example, if she was born in the 60s, transform her office into a flower child's paradise, complete with hanging flowers and beads, tie-dyed balloons and colored light bulbs. Ask the guests to come dressed in styles from that period.
