How Make A Belly Dancer Costume

Belly dancing is seen as a sexy, exotic pastime. Because of this, many women like to dress up as belly dancers for Halloween or costume parties. The keys to a great belly-dancing costume are sheer fabrics, accessories and dramatic makeup. Belly dancers also wear clothing that makes noise when they move. Create a belly-dancing costume that will turn heads wherever you go.

Clothes

Buy a gold bikini (or a gold bra and panties) and 2 yards of flowing fabric (such as silk). Cut two pieces of fabric 1 yard long and 6 inches wide. Hem the fabric all the way around. Attach one of the 6-inch ends to the top front of the bikini bottom so it hangs down like a skirt. If you want a sturdier garment, sew it. If you want to finish the costume quickly, you may hot glue it. Repeat this process with the second piece of fabric, only on the back of the bikini bottom. You now have a skirt with an opening at each side. Buy gold sequins or a gold trim that has coins or circles of gold hanging off of it. Attach this trim all the way around the bottom of the bikini top via sewing or hot glue.

Accessories

Buy as much gold jewelry as you can find. Necklaces, rings, bracelets and arm bands will add to the belly dancer look. In addition, buy a scarf, wide enough to tie around your waist, in a contrasting color to the skirt. Sew or hot glue gold sequins around the edges of the scarf and tie it around your waist. Cut a string of gold trim that is long enough to go around your head. Tie the ends together and wear it as headband or crown.

Hair and Makeup

Wear your hair down so that it flows over your shoulders and back. If you do wear your hair up, make sure to accessorize it with gold hair clips. Use black eyeliner to outline your entire eye, ending with a "cat's eye" tip at the corners. Use small amounts of rubber cement to glue rhinestones in intricate patterns on your face.
