Homemade Funny Birthday Cards
A homemade birthday card will clearly show the birthday girl how much thought and effort you've put into her gift. And you don't have to compromise with a homemade card; you can make just the right humorous card that will make the her smile or laugh. You can make funny birthday cards using common household materials and inexpensive art supplies.
Giant or Tiny Cards
Most birthday cards are small enough to fit into standard envelopes. A giant card will surprise and entertain the birthday boy, and will probably make him laugh in bewilderment. Purchase a large piece of poster board from an office or art supply store, and fold it in half. Decorate the card with construction paper, acrylic paint or a giant printed photograph. Write your message in giant letters inside.
A miniature card can also make a good visual joke. Try making a tiny card out of paper or card stock and print your message in a miniature font.
Humorous Messages
Write a joke or humorous message on the inside of your homemade card. Use a famous quote like: "Youth is a wonderful thing. What a crime to waste it on children" (George Bernard Shaw); "There are 364 days when you might get un-birthday presents and only one for birthday presents, you know" (Lewis Carroll); "The first sign of maturity is the discovery that the volume knob also turns to the left" (Jerry M. Wright). You can also use a funny quote from the birthday girl's favorite movie, book or TV show, or an anecdote about a funny moment you recently shared with her.
Funny Themes
Make a birthday card with a silly theme. For example, you can choose one of the birthday boy's favorite movies as a theme. For the front of the card, print out an image of the movie's protagonist and paste an image of the birthday boy's face over the character to put him into the movie's action. Include a funny quote or reference to the movie on the inside of the card. You can also include images of the birthday boy in a generic pirate, ninja or other adventure scene. Use construction paper and glitter glue pens to jazz up the card.
