Hotel & Resorts In Maui

The Hawaiian island of Maui enjoys spectacular sunsets.

Maui is for people who want to relax in the sunshine or on a sandy beach, while enjoying the friendly "aloha" spirit of Hawaii. Maybe they'll do some golfing or hiking at Haleakala National Park. Or maybe they'll do nothing but just laze around the pool at one of the island's many resorts or hotels, which are geared toward providing relaxing downtime for their guests.

Grand Wailea Resort Hotel and Spa

Lots of pampering goes on at the Grand Wailea Resort Hotel and Spa, which is a Waldorf Astoria property. The hotel has 780 rooms and suites on 40 acres, and notes its spa was named one of the top 10 spas in the United States by "Conde Nast Traveler" magazine and "Travel and Leisure" magazine. Guest rooms are 640 square feet, while the villas have three bedrooms and 3.5 baths. The property charges a daily resort fee, which includes a welcome lei and drink, Internet use, parking and turn-down service.

Kaanapali Beach Hotel

The Kaanapali Beach Hotel bills itself as "Hawaii's most Hawaiian Hotel," a claim that is borne out by the awards it has won from the Waiaha Foundation and the Hawaiian Tourism Authority. Employees, most of whom are Hawaiian, take classes in Hawaiian culture, and the hotel hosts arrival and departure ceremonies for guests. The hotel is spread across four multistory buildings, but one, the Molokai, does not have an elevator nor do the building's rooms have bathtubs. The hotel sits on 11 acres on Kaanapali Beach.

The hotel caters to gay and lesbian travelers, though everyone is welcome. Sunseeker amenities include gas barbecue grills, rooftop computer room, hot tubs and a clothing-optional rooftop deck. It is located at Kihei on Maui's south shore.

Makena Beach and Golf Resort

Makena Beach and Golf Resort sits on 1,800 acres between the ocean and Mt. Haleakala in southwestern Maui. The resort has 310 rooms, including 19 suites. To promote relaxation in its guests, the resort has an Asian meditation garden, with stone paths, waterfalls and carp swimming in streams. More active guests can hit the greens on the hotel's 18-hole golf course or go horseback riding on the slopes of Haleakala. The property charges a daily resort fee, which covers bottled water, in-room coffee, daily newspaper and free long distance calls to the rest of the United States.
