Start with a blank slate and design your own beautiful sweet sixteen birthday party invitation.
A sweet sixteen party is a special event, and calls for equally special party invitations. While there are plenty of premade sixteenth birthday party invitations to choose from, creating your own adds a unique touch to the party, and allows you to customize the invitation to match the party theme (if you have a theme). Visit your local crafts store or office supply store to find the best quality card stock and ink to use for printing. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Decide on the theme of your sweet sixteen party so you can choose materials for the invitations accordingly. If you are not planning a theme party, come up with a color scheme and overall design idea (modern, classic, trendy, girlie) based on the preferences of the birthday girl.
2. Shop for materials to help inspire your creativity. In addition to paper and ink, you may also look into lace, fabrics, beads, stickers or anything else your craft store has to offer. If you are on a budget, look for materials at home, such as magazines and newspapers to cut out letters in various fonts and create a collage effect on the invitations.
3. Write the wording for your invitation separately first. A formal sweet sixteen calls for formal wording, such as "We cordially request your presence..." However, a theme party should have an invitation with a suitable language. A Western-themed party invitation might start with a "Howdy," and a luau party would require an "Aloha."
4. Choose a font for your invitation (if you are using a computer), or practice your handwriting and/or calligraphy if you are doing the invitations by hand.
5. Choose the size and shape of your card, and be sure it will fit into the envelopes before you continue. Get creative with the shape and design; the invitation can be made to look like a concert ticket, a wanted poster, or a treasure map.
6. Create a mock up of your card, complete with wording and images or decorations. Show the mock up to the birthday girl, as well as a few other proofreaders, to be sure there are no errors.
7. Consider adding a map and/or directions on the back of the invitations if the sweet sixteen party is at a special venue, particularly if you are having guests from out of town.
8. Choose or create matching envelopes to mail out your sweet sixteen invitations. Use the same font or writing style for the address as you did for the invitation.
