To shake off the "all work and no play" mentality, a party can be just the thing. Whether you're planning a big bash or a small gathering, you won't have to work too hard or pay a penny to promote it when you use Microsoft Paint to create a flier. Microsoft's basic graphics program Paint is included with your Windows operating system, in the Accessories section, so there's no cost to download or purchase bulky and expensive software packages. Once you've got a Paint-designed flier, you can reuse it for future festive events. Create a quick and printable flier with Paint and soon you'll be ready to get the party started.
Instructions
1. Launch Paint and click the small drop-down arrow. Select "Open" and browse to a picture to use for the flier, such as people at the previous gathering or an image of something related to the party occasion. Double-click the image file name, which opens the picture in the Paint work area.
2. Click the drop-down arrow again and select "Properties." Click the "Inches" radio button. Click into the "Width" and "Height" boxes and type "8.5" and "11" respectively, turning the workspace into a flier size. Click "OK." The Paint workspace now has white space around the picture for the flier, leaving room for text about the party.
3. Click the "A" icon in the middle of the ribbon. Click a text color from the "Colors" section or leave the default of black.
4. Click anywhere in the white space of the flier, particularly along the top or bottom. Choose a font and large font size from the pop-up window. Type the main party attention grabber, such as "Welcome Home Captain Ed" or "Congrats, Graduate!"
5. Move the mouse below the main headline or into another area of white space. Change the text color if desired. Click the white space and reduce the font size to something slightly smaller that won't compete with the headline.
6. Type information about the party, such as time and location, appropriate attire and whether spouses and families are permitted. You can also use this area to add information about prizes, games, speakers and more.
7. Click one of the colored squares of the "Colors" section, such as one similar to your corporate color scheme. Click the paint bucket icon in the middle of the ribbon. Click anywhere in the white space of the flier to give it a colored background. You may have to click multiple places on the flier to fill it completely with the background color. Skip this step if you'll be printing on colored paper.
8. Click the drop-down arrow again. Choose "Save as." Select a place to save the flier on your network or where employees will be able to view or access it. Type its name in the "File name" box. Click the "Save" button.
9. Confirm that your printer holds enough paper - without jamming - to print all the required copies. Print the flier by clicking the drop-down arrow, selecting print, choosing a printer and number of copies, and clicking "Print."
