Homemade Party Supplies

Homemade party supplies can give your event a special touch.

Homemade party supplies are ideal for any type of party as they give you a chance to show your appreciation for your guests by using your creativity. Depending on the items, you may have to spend an afternoon prepping them. For ideas visit websites and party stores, then turn those ideas your own by creating your own from scratch and adding your own flair. Does this Spark an idea?

Banners and Posters

Create a larger than life banner or poster that announces the event. For example, if you are throwing a birthday party, create an over-sized birthday banner that runs along a living room wall from end to end. Include pictures of the guest of honor and have markers ready so that guests can sign the poster. This will be fun for the guest of honor to keep and look back on for years to come. Over-sized paper and poster board can be purchased at craft and most party supply stores.

Cups

Personalized cups help your attendees to keep their beverages separate and accounted for. Buy plain colored plastic cups from your nearby party supply store. Apply names to the cups using stickers or markers. Draw fun designs, such as polka dots onto each cup. For more flair, glue on sequins, glitter, or confetti. You can also purchase oddly shaped straws, such as those that contain swirls or heart shapes. Using a small dot of glue, attach the straw to the cup at the rim. Make sure that the bottom of the straw reaches all the way down into the cup when you do this, and take care so that you don't drip glue into the cup.

Confetti

Create your own confetti with construction paper, wrapping paper, or even foil. Use scissors to cut the paper into thin strips, then into tiny squares. Place the confetti on a snack table around refreshments, or in an object like a balloon. Distribute confetti balloons throughout the house and enjoy the fun as they inevitably pop throughout the night.

Food

Acquire a variety of cardboard boxes and decorate them with wrapping paper or fabric. Place party favors such as noise makers, and your homemade chocolate chip cookies in the box. You can create a variety of boxes and leave them out for the guests to enjoy as they wish, or you can create a personal box for each guest. If you choose to create a box for each guest, consider adding a name tag to each box so that the favor is more personal.
