Located on Oahu in Hawaii, in the interior of the island near the town of Wahiawa, the large Army base known as Schofield Barracks is home to more than 14,000 people, including military personnel, their families and other civilians. Besides the training areas and quad-style barracks, the base includes a commissary, library, bowling alley, privatized housing both for enlistees and officers and their families, and other recreational facilities. For visitors to the base, there is also a single hotel, simply called the Inn at Schofield Barracks.
Amenities
The Inn at Schofield Barracks hosts an on-site deli that is open for breakfast and lunch, as well as a 24-hour convenience store with movie rentals and an ATM machine. Coin-operated washers and dryers are available, as well as a valet laundry service. The hotel is also within walking distance of other base facilities such as commissary, post office, swimming pool and tennis courts.
Accommodations
Guests of the inn can select from three standard hotel room types: single queen bed, double queen beds and a superior room with queen bed and sofa bed. All guest rooms include mini-refrigerators and microwaves, cable television, irons and ironing boards, individual thermostats and private bathrooms. Cribs and roll-away beds are available free of charge.
Regulations
Because the inn sits on a military base, there are a few extra security regulations listed on the inn's website, which hotel guests are expected to follow. Among them: children under the age of 10 must be supervised at all times; bicyclists on base must wear helmets; quiet hours are observed between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly; and, understandably, no private weapons are allowed on base. Additionally, if you fly in from out of state, it's best if you leave your pet at home. Hawaii places all incoming pets under a 120-day quarantine, and you'll have to leave your pet in a quarantined area.
Rates, Reservations and Other Considerations
Because the inn is on a secure base, civilians staying at the hotel must be sponsored by a member of the military. Rates will vary based on a variety of criteria; the inn requests that you contact it for more information directly by phone or through the reservation form on its website.
