Decorate For A Beach Theme

A beach theme brings the ocean into your home.

Beach decor can mean different things to different people. A living room that evokes the austere nobility of a rocky New England coast will have a different look than one channeling the sensual warmth of a tropical paradise. The most important thing is not the decor itself, but the feelings it evokes in you and your guests. If your can almost hear the whisper of the ocean as you walk through your home, you have come up with the perfect beach theme. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Paint the walls in blue, blue-green and tans to evoke the beach.

2. Put up nautical artifacts in a prominent way to drive home the beach theme. If you have an old wooden table, for example, decoupage a nautical map onto it. Hang old glass fishnet floats on the walls or near the windows as decorations. Put a hurricane lamp on your kitchen table.

3. Put up pictures of the ocean or beaches on the walls. Use photographs of an ocean view, oil paintings of sailboats, pencil drawings of sea monsters or anything else that strikes your fancy and evokes the theme.

4. Incorporate natural beach objects into your decor. Make shelves out of driftwood. Set out seashells in a cabinet or on a counter as decor, or paste them onto a coffee table as a border. Put out a bowl of sea glass as a decoration on your counter.

5. Stack simple, brightly colored dishes in open shelves in the kitchen. Use bright towels in the bathrooms and handmade blankets in the bedroom. These touches will evoke a seaside cottage, adding to the beach theme.

6. Put up thatch curtains and lay bamboo mats on the floor to evoke a tropical beach look.
