Decorate Outdoor Canopies

Decorate your outdoor canopy to set different moods.

Outdoor canopies lend a feeling of comfort to nearly any outdoor space. Decorating those outdoor canopies, however, can provide a bit of a challenge. Elegance, romance and festivity can all be conveyed by decorating your canopy properly. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Tropical Look

1. Adorn your canopy with orchid sprays, heliconias and anthuriums to create a tropical paradise. Weave flowers together, securing them with florist's tape, and attach them to the edges of your canopy using the florist's tape or small safety pins.

2. Place potted palm trees at the corner posts of your canopy. Choose brightly colored pots to add to the tropical feeling of the canopy.

3. Add white mosquito netting to the sides of your canopy to keep insects at bay. The netting will add to the effect of being in a tropical paradise. Attach the netting to the edges of your canopy with small safety pins.

Fall Feeling

4. Drape faux maple leaves along the edges of your canopy to create a fall feeling. Twist garlands of leaves along the corner posts and secure them with florist's tape. Attach leaves to the canopy with safety pins slid over the stem of the garland.

5. Add more faux leaves, cattails and chrysanthemums around the canopy area to create added effect. Opt for dried or faux plants from the craft store for long term decor. Real flowers and cat tails can be used if the decor is short term.

6. Place small pots of grasses, salvia and cornflowers in vintage milk jugs and set them near the corner posts of your canopy. The milk jugs will conceal the plastic pots that the flowers come in, but you must remember to water them. An alternative is faux flowers and grasses from the craft store.

Beachy Effect

7. Attach organza panels to the edges of your canopy using small safety pins for a beachy, free flowing effect. Choose white or pale-colored organza for the best effect.

8. Hang large seashells and starfish under the canopy with fishing line or decorative ribbon. Use varying sizes of decorations for the optimal look. Place glass bowls of small shells and starfish around the canopy for extra decor.

9. Arrange tall, clear vases of dune grass to set around the posts of your canopy. Fill the vase halfway with white sand and insert the grass in the sand to secure it. Add a few small seashells on top of the sand when you have the vases set in place.
