Make A Facebook Logo In Gimp

Instead of listing a text-form link to your Facebook account, you can feature a self-made Facebook logo on your website or blog that visitors can click on to be directed to your corresponding social media page. You can create such a logo using the free graphic design program GIMP, letting you create a customized logo that matches the look and feel of your webpage without having to pay any money.

Instructions

1. Launch GIMP, downloading the program if you do not already have the editor installed onto your computer. Select "File" and "New" to create an image from scratch. A pop-up box will appear letting you choose the size and settings of your new workbook. When creating a logo to be placed in a sidebar as its own row, you may opt for selecting a width of 200 pixels and a height of 75 pixels; for a logo that will be placed next to other logos in the same row, you might find a width of more like 50 pixels to be optimal. Select X and Y resolutions of 100 pixels per inch and press "OK."

2. Design your background. If you want a solid blue backdrop to have a logo in the style of Facebook itself, click on the "Bucket Fill Tool" and then the "Foreground Color" preview box, which is also located in the main toolbar. A "Change Foreground Color" window will pop up, letting you choose the color of blue you want from a gradient. Press "OK" when finished, and click inside your document to fill the space with blue.

3. Locate the "Text Tool" in the main toolbar, clicking on the icon and then clicking within the document. A "GIMP Text Editor" pop-up box will appear, letting you insert your desired text. Consider inputting "Facebook" or even a simple lower-case "f" if you think your intentions will be easily understood. Otherwise, insert more descriptive text: "Like us on Facebook." With the "Text Tool" selected, the "Text" settings will appear at the bottom of the main toolbar, letting you choose a font, size and color of your choice. For easy recognition, consider choosing the color white in a block-styled font.

4. Use the "Move Tool" located in the main toolbar to re-position your text as needed. Click on the icon and then double-click and drag the text to where you want it to remain. You can also use the arrows on your keyboard to make small positioning changes as desired.

5. Save your Facebook logo by clicking on "File" and "Save As." Use a picture extension such as ".jpg" or ".png" for saving a web-friendly version of your icon. If you want to additionally save your document as a GIMP file in case you need to edit it in the future, you can use the extension ".xcf."
