Make A Floral Necklace

Make a Floral Necklace

This is a fun craft to do with kids. Using fresh flowers for this necklace makes it extra special, although silk flowers can be substituted to make it last longer. Give one of these floral necklaces to Mom for Mother's Day and she will feel wonderful.

Instructions

1. Choose sturdy flowers fresh or silk. Orchids and Gerber daisies are good choices. The flowers should be open; flatten gently between your hands to open out if necessary. Cut the stems down to the flower so there isn't any stem sticking out.

2. Thread the needle with nylon thread. Cut the thread to 24 inches in length; cut the thread shorter or longer, depending on the size you want the necklace. Make large enough to slip over the head. Knot the ends of the thread together.

3. Insert the needle through the middle of the flower. Bring the needle up from the back of the flower through the stem; pull the thread all the way through until the flower is at the end of the thread. Repeat for the remaining flowers until there are about four inches of thread left.

4. Finish the necklace by tying off the end of the thread. Insert the needle through the back of the first flower you threaded on; do not pull the needle through the flower. Pull the thread through the back of the flower until the last flower you threaded on is flush with the first flower. Make a loop out of the end of the thread still on the needle, insert the needle through the loop and pull to tighten and form a knot. To reinforce the thread, make another loop, insert the needle through the loop, and pull to tighten and form a knot. Cut off the thread closer to the knot.
