Make A Hawaiian Flower Necklace With Tissue Paper

Recreate a beautiful Hawaiian lei with this simple craft project.

A lei is a Hawaiian garland or wreath, often made from fresh flowers, used to welcome visitors and to celebrate special occasions. However, a lei can be made out of other things, including tissue paper, and can be a fun craft project for the whole family. Make them in a variety of colors and sizes. They can be worn as a necklace, arm band, decorative belt or headband.

Instructions

1. Spread an even layer of glue across a 3- to 4-inch section of a 1-inch wide strip of poster board. Be sure to leave a 1-inch section clear at both ends.

2. Wrap the eraser end of a pencil with a square of tissue paper taking care to put the eraser in the center of the paper. Twist the paper slightly.

3. Remove the pencil and gently stick the bottom of the newly formed tissue paper flower to the glue.

4. Repeat with different colors in any pattern you choose.

5. Flip the poster board over and repeat the process on the other side if you're making a necklace. Do one side only for arm bands, headbands and belts.

6. Wrap the lei around the body part to be adorned, overlap unembellished ends and tape them together.
