The Kukui Nut Lei is a popular lei mainly worn by men in the Hawaiian Culture, but can also be seen on women. Kukui nuts come in a variety of colors such as black, tan, brown or a dark and light brown mixture. Black being the most popular. Some Kukui Nuts also have flowers and other designs painted on them. Instructions
1. Cut the10 ft of ribbon in half. Place the two ribbons side by side and match up the ends.
2. With the index finger and thumb, hold two ends of the ribbon together. Tie the two peices of ribbon together in a double knot, approximately 4 inches away from the end.
3. Slip the two opposite ends of the ribbon together through the eye of the lei needle. Pull it through until you have 4 inches of ribbon.
4. Put the point of the needle through the hole at the bottom of the Kukui and up through the top. The Kukui Nut is shaped like a heart. Insert the needle through the bottom point of the heart. Push the Kukui Nut down to the bottom of the ribbon where the knot is. Tie another double knot close to the hole at the top of the Kukui nut.
5. Continue adding nuts until you come to the last Kukui nut. Tie the two endof your lei together in a bow twice.
