Make A Printable Birthday Flyer

Make a birthday flyer as in place of a traditional invitations.


People may want to make a printable birthday flyer for various reasons, such as to save money or to make the flyer more personalized. Just about anyone with basic word-processing skills can make a beautiful flyer incorporating pictures, decorative elements and text that are meaningful to the birthday celebrant. Flyers can be sent through the mail, handed out in person or posted on a community bulletin board. A birthday flyer can be made in place of invitations, or as a quick and easy means of communicating information about a birthday celebration. Does this Spark an idea?


Instructions


Publishing or Photo Editing Software


1. Open up a new document in the publishing or photo editing software installed on your computer. The size of the document should be the size of your flyer, usually 8-by-11 inches.


2. Add a decorative border by using the clip art or borders available with your software. Borders can be created using almost any type of graphic, including pictures of party hats, streamers, cupcakes, candles or other images or shapes.


3. Upload your own pictures to the computer and import them onto your flyer. Pictures can be of the birthday celebrant as he looks now, or a picture of him as a baby. Alternatively, you could choose pictures of people and things that are important to him.


4. Type in the birthday party information. This might include the name of the celebrant, her age and the address, date and time of the party. Experiment with different font styles, sizes and colors, to add visual interest to the flyer.


5. Save the flyer to your computer's hard drive and name it accordingly.


6. Print out the quantity of flyers needed.

7. Open a new word document.


8. Click on "Insert" and select "Picture," then select "Clip art." You may have to import clip art from Microsoft or the internet.


9. Type "Border" in the search box, which appears displayed in the clip art menu on the right side of your screen.


10. Choose a border for your flyer. Opt for a simple border of flowers or balloons, a theme based on the birthday celebrant's favorite sport or a more elaborate "Happy Birthday" border.


11. Change the color of the border by clicking on "Recolor" or "Color."


12. Click on "Insert" and then "Word Art" to insert text into your flyer. Word art gives you various shape, color and font options. Type in your header, such as "You're Invited" or "Celebrate Mary's 50th birthday!" Space may be limited if you choose a large or elaborate border.


13. Press "Insert" and "Text Box." Place the cursor where you want the wording of the flyer to go. Type in the date, time and place of the birthday celebration as well as any additional information you wish to communicate.


14. Insert pictures of the birthday celebrant by clicking on "Insert" and "Picture." You will be prompted to find the picture on your hard drive.


15. Save the word document and name it accordingly, such as "Mary's birthday flyer."


16. Print out the number of flyers you need.
