Make A Flipflop Cake The Easy Way

Make from a heart cake pan- No cutting required!

Flip-flop cakes are just what they sound: Cakes made to resemble flip-flops, or sandals. While they are ideal for summer -- when flip-flops are popular -- these cakes can be made at any time and are easiest with a heart-shaped cake pan. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Mix a regular box of cake mix using the directions on the box. Pour the cake mix into a heart-shaped cake pan and bake according to the time and temperature given on the box, for the appropriate size pan that you are using. Most are 9 inches, but they do vary.

2. Allow the cake to cool. Ice with the color you want for the flip-flops. Try to stick to one color. You can add other details to the flip-flops later, once your cake is completed.

3. Find the bottom of the "v" shape at the top of the heart, where the two sides connect. Pipe icing of a second color from there down to the right in a wave slightly above the bottom right side of the cake and to the edge. This line separates the two flip-flops. One flip-flop should appear to be behind the other.

4. Add the straps to the flip-flops. Locate the center top of each flip-flop, or side of the cake, and draw a 1-inch line down. Make an upside down "V" so that the top point connects to the line and the outside lines connect to one side of the flip-flop and the dividing line between flip-flops. Fill out the straps, making them thicker than the toe.

5. Outline the flip-flops around the edges in the same color as the straps. Add other details if you wish, such as flowers, dots and words.
