Make A Hula Skirt For A Doll

Make a hula skirt to fit any doll, with or without the lampshade.

If your child plays with dolls, chances are she also loves to dress them up in a variety of outfits. Purchasing doll clothing can be expensive, but often you can make your own at a fraction of the cost. Make a hula skirt for a doll in a short amount of time with only basic crafting skills, and your doll will be ready for her Hawaiian vacation in no time.

Instructions

1. Wrap a length of elastic around the doll's waist to find the size needed for her hula skirt. Cut the elastic to be the same circumference as her waist.

2. Hold the elastic in a loop or circular shape, with the cut ends overlapping by 1/2 inch. Use a hand sewing needle and thread to stitch the two ends together, one on top of the other, to make a waistband for the hula skirt.

3. Hold up a piece of raffia and fold it in half so the ends meet. Bring the folded middle portion up inside the elastic ring, and then pull the ends of the raffia through the loop made by the fold to make a slipknot. Pull gently to tighten the slipknot onto the elastic without stretching the elastic.

4. Repeat the process in Step 3 with more pieces of raffia until you have filled the waistband of the hula skirt.

5. Try the hula skirt on the doll by pulling it up around her waist. Trim the ends of the raffia if the skirt is too long; otherwise leave it how it is.
