Make A Hawaiian Bow

Add a hibiscus silk flower to a Hawaiian bow.

Turn a simple bow into a colorful, tropical bow using Hawaiian-style ribbon and flowers. Choose whichever Hawaiian ribbon you like, such as one with lei's or tiki torches on it, and combine it with a silk Hawaiian flower like a hibiscus. The Hawaiian bow is easy to make using basic, inexpensive craft supplies. Add it to a hair clip or barrette or tote bag, top a gift or use it for your other craft projects.

Instructions

1. Decide what length of bow you want to make and a cut a thick-edged Hawaiian-themed ribbon that measures twice that length plus another 1/2 inch. Wrap the ribbon into a loop, allowing the edges to overlap 1/2 inch and hot glue the edges where they overlap.

2. Press your finger in the middle of the loop so that it begins to form a bow shape and wrap wire around the middle section to keep the bow shape intact. The bow will naturally crease as you tighten the wire; wrap the wire a few times to secure and cut the excess tail.

3. Cut a thin-edged piece of ribbon that will be long enough to wrap around the middle of your bow plus an extra 1/2 inch. Wrap it around the middle of the bow, hot gluing it where the edges overlap.

4. Remove the stem from the silk hibiscus by holding on to the hibiscus with one hand and gently pulling out the stem with your other hand. Place a dab of hot glue in the middle of the bow and press the hibiscus flower to it firmly, holding for several seconds to allow the glue to dry.
