Host A Divorce Party

Independence Day is about our nation's freedom (and a ton of red, white and blue)--but don't we all need to celebrate our independence from something? If you're newly single and past the anger step of a program back to happiness--then say hola to a Single De Mayo party. Cinco De Mayo celebrates Mexico's independence--but Single De Mayo celebrates the freedom to be hot, sexy and sweet--can you say hot tamale?!

Instructions

Design Invitations

1. Send a black lace fan with the party details attached on an invitation (translation: this party is going to be hot!)

2. Google keywords like "black lace fan" to find the fans online.

3. Hole punch a piece of card stock shaped like lips, a heart or something along those lines and print or write out the information on that. Use a glitter gel pen or write with white ink on black paper to make a statement. (You can even put on red lipstick and kiss each one to personalize it and add some sass.)

Make Decorations

4. Black, white and red is your decor inspiration (think Latin dance club).

Make white cloths with lace ruffles. Start with yardage of simple white cloth or felt--OK, even white sheets will work. Use fabric glue to attach rows of lace found at fabric and trim stores. Stud the cloth with silk red roses glued sporadically to the white lace cloth. Drape over buffet and guest tables.

5. Make red glitter candles. Cover red candles with spray adhesive, sprinkle with glitter and let dry.

6. Line walls with black paper or fabric. For paper, line the space you want to cover with blue painter's tape, then attach the paper to the blue tape with double stick tape. If you're OK with tiny holes in your wall, use push pins or tacks to attach lightweight black fabric to the walls.

7. Fill clear glass vases with bunches of red roses.

8. Drape your furniture with black or red fabric.

Handle Fun and Games

9. Stuff a pinata with naughty toys.

10. Hire a salsa instructor to show the guests a few hot moves (contact a local dance school for referrals).

11. Feature a wishing well.

12. If you really want to sizzle, rent a stripper pole to inspire some salsa-style moves!

Plan the Menu

13. Set up pitchers of sangria, a self-service margarita station and tequila tasting.

14. Stick to finger foods like empanadas, gazpacho in shot glasses garnished with shrimp, taquitos with guacamole, spiced chocolate and other Latin goodies. Google keywords like "empanadas," "gazpacho," "spicy chocolate truffles" to find recipes or resources to purchase the dishes ready-made.
