Learn To Decorate Cakes

Decorate wedding cakes with plastic or edible embellishments.

Elaborately decorated cakes make eye pleasing centerpieces for special events such as weddings and birthday parties. Cake decorations can range from plain frosting with sprinkles to life-like sculptural presentations made from fondant. Although baking basic white cakes can be a benefit if you plan to sell cakes to clients, you do not need to know bake cakes to decorate them. As a cake decorator, you can practice your craft on cardboard, foam board or aluminum foil. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Enroll in cake decorating classes at a craft store. Craft stores sometimes offer cake decorating classes, depending on the craft store size and facilities. You can purchase everything you need to participate in the class from the craft store offering the course. Ask for a cake decorating schedule of classes at the craft store customer service desk.

2. Read cake decorating books. Such books offer step-by-step instructions for decorating a cake. Cake decorating books also provide you with lists of supplies as well as tips and tricks to make your cakes stand out, even if you are a novice cake decorator.

3. Watch free cake decorating instructional videos online. You can find these videos on the websites of famous cake decorators such as Ron Ben Israel and Warren Brown. You can also find cake decorating instructional videos on the websites of television channels that specialize in cooking or baking.

4. Practice cake decorating as frequently as possible. Use the skills you learn from classes, books and videos to decorate cakes for social functions at home or at work. You can also start a small business and offer your services as cake decorator to private clients.
