In lucid dreaming, you remember the details of your dreams and subject them to analysis afterwards. Follow these steps to discover what your dreams are telling you.
Instructions
1. Put yourself in the right frame of mind to have a lucid dream. Believe you can do it, believe it is important to do it, want to do it and know what you will do in the lucid dream when it begins. Have confidence and expect the results you want.
2. Increase your dream memory. Dream recall is an important early step. Try telling yourself before you go to bed "I will remember my dreams" repeatedly. Set your alarm to wake you up in the middle of the night to catch yourself dreaming or use your snooze in the morning to come in and out of the dream world. You are most likely to remember a dream if you wake up while you are having it.
3. Keep a journal beside your bed and record your dreams as you remember them. Record every detail you can remember no matter how unimportant it might seem. Anything you can remember is useful.
4. Learn what your dream life is like. Study your dream journal and look for themes, events and the state of mind you are in while dreaming. Look for repetitive dreams you might be having. Finding dream signs will help you determine if you are in a dream.
5. Be more aware of your surroundings when you are awake. Pay close attention to all the small things you often overlook. Use your five senses to take inventory of your day-to-day experiences.
6. Start performing reality checks to determine if you are dreaming or awake. Do this even when you are sure you are awake at first for practice. Ask yourself if your surroundings make sense. Test gravity and see if anything seams out of place. Read a sentence, look away and read it again. If the sentence changes, gravity fails or something is out of place, you are likely dreaming.
7. Merge what you have learned about your reality with what you have learned about dreaming. When you see one of the dream signs, perform a reality check to test if you are dreaming. If you often dream about being chased and suddenly you realize you are being chased, do a reality check to see if it is a dream. If the reality check fails, you have entered a lucid dream.
8. Realize you are dreaming while you are in the dream. When the reality check fails, let your imagination be your guide. Go where you want and see what you want to see.
