Create your
own 2D computer games
Creating your own 2D video games can be a very fun and rewarding hobby. But creating a video game doesn't have to involve hours of writing code. Many tools are available that make video game creation a snap. You can create your own games and share them with friends and family, or even sell your games, all without having to pay a cent.
Instructions
1. Download and install game creation software. This software will make it easy to create 2D games without ever having to learn any code. Both Game Maker and Game Editor are great choices. Game Maker offers an easy-to-learn drag-and-drop interface, where just about any 2D game can be created. Game Editor offers cross-platform development for games for computers and smartphones, including the iPhone.
2. Plan your game. Make sketches of what you want your levels to look like, and design out all your characters and important objects. Plan out what kind of gameplay you want your video game to feature. Consider what others might find fun to play.
3. Create your visual elements. Translate your sketches into the computer using art creation software such as Photoshop or even Microsoft Paint. Try to create all the visual elements you will need for your game, as this will save you much time later.
4. Create your game. If you run into problems, check out the tutorials or forums available for your game-making software. The more practice you get using the software, the faster you will be able to create games in the future. After you complete your game, you can sell it or distribute it any way you like, provided you own the copyrights to all the material used in the game.
